Managers Notes
WOW!! Saturday was a good meet against a tough team. There were so many Owen Brown Cheerleaders (both parents and swimmers) all around the pool supporting our team. Let’s stay focused come to practice, working hard, and stay motivated.
In addition we have very exciting news! It was a very close meet on Saturday and we had lots of best times! Because the score was so close, rules state that the meet results have to be reviewed by CNSL before they are considered final. Additionally, Pheasant Ridge discovered a discrepancy when entering their results and reported the difference to us and to CNSL. After final review the final score is a 309 to 309 TIE!!! Great job swimmers!!!!

Owen Brown v Clary’s Forest/Hawthorn/Swansfield
Our last meet will be Saturday July 23rd against Clary’s Forest/Hawthorn/Swansfield and will take place at the Dasher Green Pool. Our team will begin warm-ups at 6:45 am; the meet starts at 8:00 am. Meet set-up, for those who have volunteered, will begin at 6:00 am. Please come decked out in your Pirates themed attire to show your team spirit and support your team.

Pep Rally – Pirates
Please plan on joining us at 5:30 pm at Dasher Green Pool on Friday the 22nd for our last Pep Rally! We’ll be showing our team spirit by wearing our best Pirates attire. We’ll have pizza for sale for dinner, and the kids will have fun decorating posters and practicing the cheers they’ll holler at the meet the next morning.
SNO CONES!
The team has acquired a sno cone machine and will be selling sno cones at the pep rally and the meet on Saturday.
MENTORS
We are also interested in recruiting swim team oldies to help mentor new, incoming parents. The swim meet process can be very confusing and intimidating if you have never experienced it. If a few experienced parents could take new members under their wing and explain how things work, it would help tremendously. This partnership between old and new has helped new families to enjoy the meets much more.
If you’ve had new neighbors move in since we last met, please encourage those with children to join our happy little family of Barracudas. The more, the merrier!
Master Swimmers!!!
Calling all swimmers over the age of 18! We know that working at a meet (or just watching intently) can be hot and sweaty business! Please join us for some fun at the mid-meet Master’s swim. We’ll form three or four relays of adults to take a quick dip to cool off. If you’d like to swim, please see one of the managers during the freestyle or backstroke events to hold your spot
Awards Picninc
We will be having the awards picnic catered again this year. Chicken nuggets, fruit, salad, and pasta will be served. The cost per person attending is $6.50, with a family maximum of $30.00.
The managers would also like to put together a slide show of this year’s swimmers. If you have pictures from practices, pep rallies, events, meets and want to share please give them to the managers or send them to team@owenbrowswimteam.com,
Missing a Meet???
If your child will not be at our next meet, please complete and turn in a swimmer availability form. Please also advise if your child will have to come late or leave early. In order for everyone to get their pre-meet jobs done so that we can have a stress-free, fun, and successful meet, Coach Lauren needs to finish the line-up on the Wednesday before a meet. Every late notification adds many more hours of work for the coaches (Lauren was up to midnight on 6/24 changing the line up) and volunteers. What your child swims is interrelated with the rest of the team creating a domino effect to the line-up. Additionally, when swimmers do not come without notifying us (sickness and emergencies are ok), the line-up has to be changed again while everyone is warming up. We had to scratch a relay team from almost every age group because of swimmers who were not there. This is a big disappointment for the other children who are expecting to swim as well as potentially costing the team points which could be the difference between a winning and losing score. We want swim team to be a positive experience for all our swimmers, coaches and volunteers!
Swim Suit Swap
If you have a swim suit to contribute, bring it and you will get a ticket that entitles you to a swim suit. If you need a swim suit and don't have one to trade then the cost is $5. See Jeanne Moore (or a manager) for more information.
So far the suit swap has been a big success. There are more parents interested in purchasing suits; however we need families to trade in their old suits. There will be a 50 -50 drawing at the end of the season for anyone who trades in a suit and does not get a new one in return.
